Lives We Lead
"The Lives We Lead: the Leaders We Need" is an innovative approach to meeting Suffolk’s priorities.
Although Suffolk has a history of good partnership dialogue leaders wanted to accelerate collaborative delivery. To do this they undertook an innovative culture-change programme to challenge and change ways of working across public, private and third sector organisations in Suffolk. This was called The Lives we Lead: The Leaders we Need.
Key learning from the Lives We Lead programme was that:
- Too many services are still structured around organisations not individuals;
- Trust is essential to effective collaborative working;
- Professional friendships had developed as a result of the programme;
- There needs to be a shift in behaviour from central government and locally to enable collaboration and innovation to flourish;
- There is an appetite amongst senior executives across sectors in Suffolk to lead such behaviour change.
To build on the momentum for innovation and collaboration, leaders have agreed the following principles:
- As public sector funding decreases collaboration across the whole Suffolk system will be essential to ensure high quality outcomes for citizens;
- We need to build stronger communities to help people find and implement their own solutions;
- Avoid bureaucratic solutions;
- Look to deliver some early wins.
The legacy of the Lives We Lead programme is a culture and practice amongst Suffolk leaders of working together towards shared aims, to improve the quality of life for all.
