Safer Suffolk Delivery Partnership prepares to launch Home Shield Plus Scheme

Posted on: Friday, 21 August 2009

Following on from the successful Home Shield project, which receives over 100 referrals per month requesting assistance for vulnerable people in Suffolk from front line officers who will visit clients within their own homes, the Safer Suffolk DP are about to launch Home Shield Plus which will provide a pro-active service. Home Shield plus will give us the ability to deliver the service, through the appointment of 8 visiting officers and a coordinator, managed by Suffolk Fire & Rescue Community Safety Team.

All posts have been advertised and it is our expectations to have every one in post by mid October, when a 2 week induction course will be held, followed by the launch, which is planned for early November.

Home Shield plus has been set the ambitious target of 500 home visits per month. Each visiting officer will be provided with a vehicle and an electronic note pad, which will hold the referral form. Every visit carried out will include a full home fire safety and security survey, along with a series of question around health and well-being and quality of life, plus a check on to confirm that all the financial entitlements are being claimed. Once the information has been obtained it will be passed to the Home Shield coordinator who will deal with the referral in the same manor as those from the existing scheme.
