Information Sharing
“Information sharing is key to the Government’s goal of delivering better, more efficient public services that are coordinated around the needs of the individual. It is essential to enable early intervention and preventative work , for safeguarding and promoting welfare and for wider public protection. Information sharing is a vital element in improving outcomes for all”. DCSF/DCLG Information Sharing: Guidance for Practitioners and Managers 2008.
The Suffolk Strategic Partnership is committed to promoting the sharing of information to support improved outcomes for people in Suffolk, which satisfies legal and security requirements.
The Suffolk Strategic Partnership Information Sharing Protocol 2009 (50.93 KB) sets out the framework for sharing information between partners.
The Suffolk Children’s Trust Information Sharing Charter 2009 (190.97 KB) provides additional guidance for data sharing about children and young people.
Organisations which have signed up to the Protocol so far can be seen using the link on the right hand menu.
How to share data and information legally and safely
Whenever data is exchanged, it must be done under a formal written agreement which demonstrates that the principles of the Data Protection Act and other legislation are followed and that the transfer and storage of personal data is managed securely. Use of an approved pro-forma will support this process, such as the SSP Data Exchange Agreement (85.50 KB).
All data exchange agreements must be logged to enable annual review and refresh. Each partner organisation will maintain a list of agreements it enters into and be responsible for logging the date and details of agreements with the SSP DEA library.
