Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA)

Latest News

The new government has announced that Comprehensive Area Assessment is to be abolished. The details and timing are yet to be announced. Awaiting details, the Audit Commission will work with the government and other inspectorates on how to increase accountability for local public services through more transparency, richer data and less inspection.

2008/09 CAA Organisational and Area Assessment results are now available.

Comprehensive Area Assessment

CAA is the new inspection regime for public services led by the Audit Commission but all inspectorates will contribute. This will replace all current inspection regimes from April 2009 including Corporate Performance Assessment (CPA). Statutory inspection of children and young people’s services and adult social care will remain as well as annual ratings for both.

There are two main elements to CAA:

Organisational Assessment
Area Assessment

The focus for CAA will be on how well local public services, working together, are achieving improvement and progressing towards long term goals.

As part of the new Comprehensive Area Assessment (CAA) process that judges how well public services in Suffolk are working together to deliver better services and outcomes for the people of Suffolk, a number of self assessment documents have been produced.  These documents summarise activity that is contributing to our Transforming Suffolk vision, across our local strategic partnerships as well as the county wide partnership.  They contain a wealth of information about projects that are being undertaken to work towards our shared vision, and this summary has been provided from those documents.  It is hoped that this document will provide al partners with a flavour of the many different initiatives that are taking place across Suffolk, and allow for some sharing of ideas and best practice.

If anyone has any queries about anything in this document, please contact the relevant LSP Co-ordinator or Jill Korwin, Head of Performance Improvement at Suffolk County Council jill.korwin@suffolk.gov.uk or call 01473 264873.
